Ancient
Greek and Roman culture is the base for much of our modern life.
The classical architecture they created is the standard for our
modern society.
The post and lintel gave way to the evolution of the column and
the three standard types of columns: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian are
elegant ways to support roofs.
The famous structures of our past, Pantheon, Colosseum, and many
arches are awe inspiring, and influence our present structures and
everyday life. I capture facets of Roman architecture in modern life by
creating designs that highlight the importance of ancient achievements. I
became interested in creating images based on architecture during my
college education, but when I moved to Chicago and started teaching
Photography, my addiction of shooting urban architecture in Chicago
began.
When, I traveled to Italy, Paris, and, London, the classical
structures overwhelmed me.
I had studied art history for many years but experiencing the
Roman structures firsthand was amazing.
As I shoot, I notice the fragments of Roman architecture in
conjunction with modern ideas.
I strive to create aesthetically interesting compositions that
highlight Classical Antiquity in our modern times.
I hope viewers see Rome’s achievements in a new way.
In addition, I want viewers to notice and appreciate the small
details in my images, and also in their own lives that are often taken
for granted.
